Kochi: The police is yet to arrest an assistant bank manager in Aluva, absconding after allegedly stealing Rs 2 crore worth mortgaged gold ornaments from its locker replacing it with imitation jewellery.
The cops had booked Sis Mol, 36, an assistant manager of Union Bank of India, ten days back and issued a lookout notice on her five days later.
The Angamaly native allegedly stole around 1106.5 sovereigns of gold as per the complaint filed by the Aluva branch manager on November 17.
"We have intensified the search across the state, and hope to arrest her soon. We cannot reveal details until the arrest," a senior officer said.
The investigation team has extended the search to other states also.
The accused fled on the same day with her husband Sajith when the manager filed the complaint at the Aluva East police station.
The mobile phones of both went switched off on the same day leaving them untraced.
Sajith works in a share market venture in Kochi, and the accused committed the theft with the complete knowledge of him.
The incident came to light on November 16 when the account holder came to take back the mortgaged gold and found them replaced with imitation gold of the same weight.
Earlier, the probe team led by Aluva East circle inspector Vishal Johnson planned to set out for Bengaluru based on information that the duo had been hiding there and later backed out after receiving information that they are in Angamaly.
