Nigerian national held for extortion in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Sleuths from the cyber crime unit in Cyberabad arrested a Nigerian national, who cheated a city-based businessperson to the tune of Rs 1.42 lakh under the pretext of supplying alotic wild nuts to a UK-based firm Phylorzeric Pharmaceutical Limited.
The suspect, identified as Ikechukuwu Okoro, 28, was apprehended from Navi Mumbai and was brought to the city on a transit warrant.
According to the police, the victim came into contact with Angelina Francis through Facebook. Angelina introduced herself as an employee from Phylorzeric and asked him to supply alotic wild nuts.
She gave him the contact details of the supplier and asked him to purchase the product for Rs 1.46 lakh.
A few days later, he received a call from Angelina, who asked him to send more nuts. However, the victim refused and asked for money for the stock he had purchased earlier. The accused denied this and stopped responding to his calls.
The police traced the caller and found that Okoro was contacting the victim in the name of Angelina Francis. Okoro was sent to remand.
