Hyderabad: The Rachakonda police arrested a gang of six people for running a ‘rice pulling scam’. The gang pretended it had a ‘rice pulling device’, which they claimed had magical powers to draw grains of rice towards it, The gang reportedly cheated residents on the outskirts of the city to the tune of lakhs of rupees with a promise to give them the device.
Police said the gang played on rumours of hidden treasures in the Rachakonda area. Some persons had found a Shivalingam which attracted local attention. Taking advantage of this, the gang started selling the idea of rice pulling devices which they said they would dig up from the ground. Police seized Rs 5 lakh and some devices from them.
