Kollam: Visa fraud victim waits for justice

The agent abroad after Mr Santhosh completing medical verification procedures at Chennai demanded Rs 40,000 offering him a copy of visa.

Kollam: S. Santhosh of Poothakulam in Kollam has lost almost all of his earnings in an attempt to secure a better job in Malaysia after falling prey to a visa fraud.

The complaints given to various agencies including the Prime Minister’s office reached nowhere, says Mr Santhosh, who strives hard to make ends meet.

The agent who offered visa is now absconding, and several others have lost money in a similar manner.

“I do not own a single inch of land and a large family including aged parents depend on my meagre income from a private firm. That is why I tried to get a job abroad with a decent salary offered by Lathika of Alamcode. She made me contact an agent named Dinesh Krishnan in Malaysia and took my passport and Rs 2,000 as an advance. I lost Rs 1.60 lakh in total, sending it to Mr Krishnan,” he laments.

The agent abroad after Mr Santhosh completing medical verification procedures at Chennai demanded Rs 40,000 offering him a copy of visa. He did not get any information on the visa for a while after the incident. It was later known that Ms Lathika went absconding while her husband and son were in remand for a visa fraud.

The agent in Malaysia again contacted him offering visa evading Ms Lathika. He had sent him an approval copy of visa after which a total of Rs 1.60 lakh was sent to him through a bank account.

He says Mr Krishnan, who is still abroad, is threatening him over the phone while the police failed to arrest the woman even after several cases of visa fraud have come to light.
