Hyderabad: Former billiards champion and Padma Bhushan winner Michael Ferreira has landed at the Chanchalguda Jail.
The Madhapur police produced him on Wednesday in a court. The court remanded him and the other accused to judicial custody in connection with the QNet scam. Earlier, Ferreira's lawyers had successfully secured a stay from the Hyderabad HC against the CCS police investigation.
Cyberabad police has two more cases against Ferreira in which he will be produced before court once again on Thursday.
Apart from Ferreira, police produced Malcolm Nozer Desai, Magarlal V. Balaji and V. Srinivas Rao, the board members of Vihaan Direct Selling Pvt Ltd, in court. Police brought them from Mumbai on a prisoner’s transit warrant to investigate the cases booked in Cyberabad.
“We have booked three cases against Ferreira here at two police stations. One case was booked in Madhapur and two are in KPHB following complaints from victims who lost money in their company. The victims were offered handsome returns for their investment but were cheated. The cases were booked this year,” said DCP Vishwa Prasad.
“In the Madhapur police case the suspects were booked under Sections 384 (extortion), 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust) and the Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act. The court remanded them to judicial custody for 14 days. In the KPHB police case we will produce him in court tomorrow again,” the DCP said.
