Hyderabad Tech Professional Held for Cheating

Hyderabad: The Special Operations Team (SOT) along with Chevella Police of Cyberabad commissionerate arrested K. Ganga Amreswarnath, 28, working as a software developer for a reputed e-learning platform, for allegedly cheating several people under the guise of exchanging smaller denomination currency that he had with the victims.

Based on the clues from CCTV cameras and also the accused’s past criminal history, he was identified and arrested, said DCP (Rajendranagar) R. Jagadishwar Reddy.

After his arrest, it was found that he was involved in four offences and seven more cases were detected, the DCP said. Though he was doing a well-paid job, he told cops that he took to crime to make more money to overcome Covid-induced financial issues.

Police said that Amreswarnath would approach his targets claiming that he had currency in smaller denominations and that he wanted to exchange them with high denomination ones if they had. He would collect currency from the victims and take them saying that the cash with him was in his vehicle.

Once reaching the spot, he would escape with the cash he collected from the victims. In the same process, he has duped seven persons in the past few months. He was sent to judicial remand on Wednesday, the police said.
