HYDERABAD: A car driver from the city, wanted in nine burglaries, was arrested by Cyberabad police on Thursday. The accused, Mohammed Ibrahim, a resident of Golconda, had been taken into custody seven times in 11 years.
According to the Cyberabad police, Ibrahim, 40, started committing burglaries from 2005. He kept an eye on locked houses and broke into them whenever an opportunity arose. His latest theft was on September 12 at Rajendranagar when the inmates of a house had gone to watch the Ganesh idol immersion procession. When they returned that night, they found the house burgled.
Police disclosed that between 2005 and 2016, Ibrahim was arrested seven times for being involved in 43 thefts. He was an expert in breaking into locked houses using a screwdriver and an iron rod. In 2016, he was booked under the Preventive Detention Act and detained in Chanchalguda Central Prison. On release from the jail in January 2019, he took up job as a driver with a businessman.
Rajendranagar detective inspector D. Ashok said: “Ibrahim used to borrow his employer’s car saying that he wants to take his family members for a ride. But he used it to commit thefts from locked houses. While most burglars lavishly spent the money they made on themselves, Ibrahim always spent the money made to meet his family’s needs. He has a wife and four children, and often faced difficulty in meeting their expenses.”
With clues collected from the scene of offence in Rajendranagar, Ibrahim was nabbed during the wee hours of Thursday at P&T Colony in the Sun City area.
Investigations have revealed his involvement in four cases in Rajendranagar, three in Golconda and two in Asif Nagar, said the detective inspector.
Based on Ibrahim’s confession, 17 tolas of gold, silver articles weighing 500 gms, Rs 1.4 lakh cash, a car (AP13 J 7916) used in committing the offences, apart from an iron rod and a screwdriver were recovered from him.
