Congress leader's murder: Two held
Bengaluru: Two days after the cold blooded murder of the 27-year-old Congress Yalahanka block president Arun Kumar, the north-east division police have arrested the two main accused.
They have been identified as Manoj and Manjegowda. Manoj alias Kanchan reportedly attacked the police and was shot at before he was arrested.
Kumar who was also a real estate agent, was brutally hacked to death at the Allalasandra Gate in Yalahanka by five men early Monday. Kumar was repeatedly attacked with machetes and draggers and he died on the spot.He had returned from Yeshwanthpur after watching a movie along with his relative Abhishek.
Following the incident, the DCP (North-East) Kala Krishnaswamy had formed a special team to nab the killers. On Wednesday, the Yelahanka police received information about the presence of Manoj and Manjegowda in Chikkajala police station limits.
The police team drawn from Yalahanka and Vidyaranyapura police stations rushed to the spot to nab the accused. When the head constable Uday Kumar and constable Mahadevmurthy went to arrest Manoj and Manjegowda, Manoj who was armed with a dragger attacked the duo in a bid to escape.
To nab the fleeing accused, Yalahanka police inspector Manjegowda and Vidyaranyapura police inspector Ramamurthy opened fire at Manoj. He was shot at in the leg and hand and the police arrested the two accused.
Manoj is a history sheeter having cases of kidnap, attempt murder and assault booked against him in different police stations in the city. Kala Krishnaswamy told Deccan Chronicle that prima facie the gang attacked Kumar over some financial issue. The police are on the lookout of the remaining accused.
