CHENNAI: A 51-year-old businessman was allegedly kidnapped by unidentified persons in a car and let off near East Coast Road (ECR) on Monday evening.
The businessman, Rajkumar runs a two wheeler showroom and is a resident of Sandeep Avenue in Neelankarai. On Monday evening, he dropped his wife at a temple in Besant Nagar and went for a walk near his house when he was kidnapped. The gang, posed as policemen and bundled the businessman into a vehicle and drove towards Puducherry.
When Rajkumar questioned them, one of the occupants threatened Rajkumar to part with Rs 10 lakh as ransom to release him alive. The businessman claimed he had no money following which they assaulted him and pushed him of the moving car, snatching his phone and wallet.
The injured businessman managed to contact his wife who informed friends and a complaint was filed with Neelankarai police. Police have begun investigating.
