Cybercrime SI Caught with 1.75 kg of Methaqualone, Jailed

HYDERABAD: Kodati Rajendra, 39, a 1995 batch SI deputed to the Cybercrime wing of Cyberabad commissionerate was caught in possession of 1.75 kg of methaqualone. Incidentally, this is the first time an arrest has been made of someone with the synthetic drug in Telangana.

Swinging into action after a tip off, sleuths from T-NAB and Raidurgam police station caught him red-handed with the drug.

Reportedly Rajendra laid lands on this drug in February, when, he along with a team of cybercrime personnel, nabbed Nigerian nationals in Mumbai’s Khandeshwar PS limits in a cybercrime case. Since then, the drugs have been in Rajendra’s Manikonda residence.

He was arrested and remanded to judicial custody and is lodged at Cherlapally central prison, said Raidurgam SHO M. Mahesh.

Earlier, Rajendra was convicted in a bribe case last September and was sentenced to undergo imprisonment for two years. But he got a stay on the conviction and continued in the service.

According to sources, police received a tip off that a person carrying a huge quantity of drugs was on a bike and accordingly intercepted a Royal Enfield near Khajaguda at around 10 pm on Saturday. On seeing the cops, the biker made a vain bid to flee.

On searching, the police personnel found two packets of methaqualone. Rajendra revealed that he had kept it with him to sell it in the city.

Madhapur DCP G. Sundeep said that they will seek custody of the accused for further investigation and also put up proposals for his removal from service.
