Chennai: Notorious rowdy held at gunpoint
Chennai: ‘Ennore’ Dhanasekaran (37), a notorious history sheeter and an extortionist, who has seven murder cases, four attempts to murder cases and 29 other cases against him was arrested by the city police at gunpoint on Saturday. In a recent case, Dhanasekaran had allegedly murdered the North Madras Thermal Power Plant contractor James Paul on August 13.
The arrest was made after eight persons surrendered at Poonamallee court in connection with James Paul’s murder. “They had reportedly confessed to killing James Paul as he refused to part with Rs 1 crore to Dhanasekaran,” a police source said. Following this, police formed a special team comprising of inspectors of Manali New Town and Washermanpet police stations under the supervision of Jt Commissioner Prem Anand Sinha to nab Dhanasekaran.
On Saturday, Dhanasekaran and his two aides robbed a lorry driver V. Kumaran of Rs 2,500 in Manali New Town and based on his complaint, a case was registered.
The police received a tip-off that Dhanasekaran was hiding in Manali New Town and they surrounded his car flashing guns. Dhanasekaran who tried to alight from his car and escape suffered injuries his leg before he was secured. However, his aides managed to flee the spot. A machete, the car and Rs 2,500 cash were seized from him. He was remanded in judicial custody on Sunday.
According to the police, Dhanasekaran of Annai Sathya Nagar in Ennore is notorious for extortion from businessmen and industries in Ennore and is also accused in the murder of Kalishwaran alias Kaali of Ennore in 2004, Karuppu Raja of Red Hills in 2005, Periamuthu and Ashok in 2009. He had been detained five times under the Goondas Act. A hunt has been launched to nab ‘Thanjavur’ Mathi and ‘Ulundurpet’ Mummoorthi, who fled the spot during the police operation.
