Chennai: Burglars use house owner's bike to flee after stealing in daylight

When he returned home at around 11.30 am, he was shocked to see his front gate and door broken open.

Chennai: Unidentified persons broke into the house of a retired state government employee in Kancheepuram and escaped with gold and cash in broad daylight on Sunday. Ironically, the burglars took the key of the two-wheeler parked in the porch and escaped on iAccording to the police, the incident happened when Renganathan (65), a retired state government employee and a resident of Suseela Nagar in Sevilimedu in Kancheepuram district was out at a nearby temple and market on Sunday morning. “When he returned home at around 11.30 am, he was shocked to see his front gate and door broken open. He rushed inside the house only to find 30 sovereigns of gold jewels and Rs 1.25 lakh cash stolen from the house,” the police said.

Police said the miscreants took Renganathan’s two-wheeler key from a table inside and used his vehicle to flee the spot. The victim lodged a complaint at Kancheepuram Taluk Police station.

In another incident, unidentified burglars stole 11 sovereigns of gold jewels and Rs. 3.10 lakh cash from the house Abdul Rahamath (48) in Balaji Nagar in Sirukaveripakkam. Abdul Rahamath is a rice trader.

“Early on Sunday morning, Abdul along with his family had gone to a relative’s wedding and returned home around 3 pm. To his shock, he found back door had been broken open and the gold and cash were stolen from the bureau,” the police said.

Based on Abdul’s complaint, Baluchettichathiram police registered a case and are investigating.
