Chennai: The city police have arrested two persons for selling banned gutka products and seized 128kg of banned substances from their possession. The arrested persons were identified as K. Nurullah Basha (30) of Thangavel Vaithiyar street in Triplicane and P. Suresh (29) of Venkatachalam third street.
An Ice House police team had stopped a person coming in a two-wheeler in the locality during a vehicle check on Saturday evening. "When the police questioned him, he made contradictory statements. On suspicion, the police took him to the station for further interrogation," the police said.
Police seized 16kg of banned substances and Rs 5,000 from his possession. During further questioning, Nurullah had reportedly squealed on Suresh, who runs a shop near Parthasarathy Temple in Triplicane.
Suresh was also arrested and police seized 112kg of gutka products and Rs 1,300 cash from him. Both arrested persons were sent to judicial remand.
