Bengaluru Cop takes on mighty MP
Bengaluru: In an unusual development, a police sub inspector (PSI) has written a letter to his higher ups seeking permission to file a complaint against D.K. Suresh, MP (Bengaluru Rural), who allegedly insulted him by calling him an ‘extortionist’ in the presence of others.
T. R. Srinivas, the PSI attached to Attibele police station in Bengaluru Rural district, has written a letter to SP of Bengaluru Rural district, Amit Singh. The alleged incident took place when the MP had called the police officers of Anekal taluk, which falls under his constituency, for a meeting on Thursday.
As per the PSI’s letter, he along with Bengaluru Rural DySP Umesh, Attibele police inspector L.Y. Rajesh, Anekal Circle Inspector Malatesh, Jigani police inspector Mohan and Bannerghatta PSI Murali went to the meeting at the MP’s residence in Sadashivanagar at 10.30 am on Wednesday. The MP spoke to the officers for about 20 minutes. While they were leaving, the MP reportedly asked Srinivas that in which police station he was working in.
“When I told him that I was posted at Attibele station, the MP said, ‘Oh, you are the Attibele PSI. You are extorting people everyday. Isn’t it?’. I replied, ‘No Sir, you have mistaken me’. Again the MP said, ‘I know how you people work’. This all happened in the presence of other people and I felt humiliated’. Thus, I request you to permit me to file a complaint against the MP in the jurisdictional police station,” the complaint stated.
MP denies charge
However, Mr Suresh rubbished the allegations and said, “There were complaints that the police were not taking complaints related to many robberies in my constituency. So, I had called the police officers to advise them to maintain law and order and respond to public, who approach police expecting respite. Whatever I had to tell the police officials, I have told them. I think the PSI has not taken my words in right spirit and is doing this for publicity. However, if he wants to file a complaint, let him file. I am ready for any probe.”
Following this, it is learnt that the SP spoke to all those who attended the meeting and took details from them on what exactly happened.
