17 kids rescued at Vizag station
Visakhapatnam: The personnel from Disha, GRP, RPF and anti-human trafficking squad rescued 17 children at Visakhapatnam Railway station who were being taken to Bangaluru from Katihar on Yeshwantpur Express on Tuesday afternoon. All the children were male and in the age group of 14 to 18.
They were all suspected to be child labourers, said circle inspector G. Nirmala, who was incharge of the rescue operations. She said they had taken 10 adults into custody who were accompanying the children.
“We have summoned parents of the children to establish that they were being taken to Bengaluru with their knowledge,’’ Nirmala said.
The children were handed over to Childline and the police intensified investigation to nab others in connection with the case.
Officers of Railway Protection Force, women and child welfare and state police were involved in the rescue operations.
