Hyderabad: Moneylender groom harasses minor girl
Hyderabad: A 17-year-old girl who was rescued from an attempted child marriage is being harassed by the person to whom she was engaged.
As the girl’s father had borrowed money from private financier and distant relative Shivashankar Reddy, he forced him to give the girl in marriage to him. But the marriage was foiled by the police.
Now Shivashankar has started troubling the girl’s parents. A complaint was lodged with the Vanasthalipuram police regarding this. Meanwhile, the Balala Hakkula Sangham has demanded the immediate arrest of Shivshankar.
The girl is now doing II year Intermediate at a private college. was forced to get engaged to Shivshankar Reddy. Though the girl was not willing her parents decided to go ahead with the marriage. However, after the intervention of Balala Hakkula Sangham and the police the marriage move was given up.
The girl who topped the I year Intermediate examination in her college with 92 per cent marks has resumed studies. Meanwhile, since a few days, Shivshankar had been visiting the girl’s home and asking her father to repay the money.
When he expressed his inability to pay back and requested for some more time Shivshankar became furious. “He came home drunk late at night and started abusing my husband and also demanded that we marry off my daughter to him if we cannot pay the money back,” the girl’s mother said. When Shivshankar refused to budge even after repeated requests the girl’s family approached the Balala Hakkula Sangham and filed a complaint with Vanasthalipuram police.
A case of trespass and criminal intimidation was registered. “We have set up teams to nab Shivshankar from Kadapa district,” inspector Krishna said.
