Woman, hubby held for fraud in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: The Chilkalguda police arrested Lalitha and her husband Srivastav on Sunday for allegedly cheating people of around Rs 1 crore by assuring them higher returns on investments. Police also arrested three of their associates. The couple is also accused in a cheating case at Banjara Hills, where they collected money from women for investments in villas assuring them high returns.
The arrested people are S. Lalitha, her husband S. Sai Ramakrishna Sriva-stav, her colleagues Srinivas Khadikar and T. Rakesh Kumar, and Real Hero monthly magazine reporter Saibabu. Accus-ed Sunil is absconding. Police said Lalitha, her husband and her two colleagues collected money from the victims by promising to invest it in construction and gold, and promised high returns.
Lalitha gave Rs 70 lakh to Sunil through Rakesh to invest in construction and gold, shared the balance among themselves and spent it on luxuries. But Sunil did not invest the money or return it. When Lalitha started pressing him for money he gave two cheques for Rs 55 lakh.
“Saibabu who came to know about the issue convinced them to settle the matter saying that he has “influence” in the police. He collected Rs 2.75 lakh from Lalitha and her husband,” inspector K. Srinivasulu said.
Later, he made them file complaints against some people from Chilkalguda alleging harassment. As per his advice, Lalitha approached the SHRC and filed a petition against the police and took Rs 1 lakh for arranging a press meet.
Meanwhile, her victims filed a complaint. Police raided their house, arrested them and recovered Rs 2 lakh. Police said that Lalitha and her husband Srivastava were earlier arrested and sent to judicial custody twice.
