Vijayawada: Rs 2.2-crore ganja seized from cargo truck
Vijayawada: Acting on a tip-off, officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Vijayawada, intercepted a cargo vehicle on Friday and seized 1,137.30kg of ganja valued at Rs 2.27 crore that was being transported illegally.
The massive quantity of ganja was hidden under a load of phosphogypsum, which is a byproduct of the manufacture of fertiliser from phospate rock.
The DRI said on Sunday informed that its officers had stopped the lorry which was carrying the chemical to Hyderabad from Saparla of the Narsipatnam Agency area. The ganja bags were hidden beneath of the chemicals. The officials seized the ganja and the lorry and took three persons into custody. DRI officials said that the police registered a case and started investigations.
