Kakinada: In a shocking incident, a gang of unidentified miscreants left a woman in danger of losing her hands while kidnapping her husband at Pithapuram in Kakinada late on Friday night.

Doctors are trying to save both hands of Mummidi Subbalakshmi from amputation. According to police, Subbalakshmi’s husband Subrahmanyam works at Bilaspur in Odisha and comes home once in two weeks. Subbalakshmi had gone to Bilaspur with her two children to spend the summer vacation there and returned two days ago.

According to her statement, late on Friday, a group of unidentified men barged into their house and tried to kidnap Subrahmanyam. When she started shouting for help, they sprayed some chemical on her, leaving her unconscious.

When she regained consciousness, she was in agony, her hands almost slashed off and she had another injury on her neck. Her screams of pain alerted the neighbours who rushed her to the Government General Hospital at Kakinada.

Pithapuram inspector incharge S. Rambabu said that three teams have been deployed to search for the missing Subrahmanyam.

A Clues team lifted fingerprints from the spot, while the dog squad failed to sniff anything substantial.

According to sources, the police has found variations in Subbalakshmi’s statements and also have not ruled out the role of the husband in the attack.
