Bengaluru: 11-year-old boy on bicycle fatally knocked down by road roller

Bengaluru: An 11-year-old boy was killed on the spot when a road roller on BBMP duty hit the boy's bicycle in Talaghattapura on Saturday. The deceased is R. Manu, son of Ravi and Manjula, residents of Ganegarapalya.

Ravi and Manjula worked as labourers and Manu was a class six student in a government school near his house.

As there were school holidays Manu, who was very fond of cycling, took his bicycle and went out with his friends on Friday afternoon. Manu along with his friends peddled on a road in Talaghattapura where the BBMP and BDA had taken up road widening project. He stopped behind the road rollers waiting for his friends to arrive.

The driver of the road roller who failed to notice the boy standing behind the roller reversed it hitting Manu's bicycle. Manu fell off the bicycle and sustained serious head injuries to which he succumbed on the spot. The driver of the road roller fled the spot. Kumarswamy Layout police are making efforts to nab the driver.

Meanwhile, the BBMP commissioner has written for suspension of the assistant engineer monitoring the works. He said that the incident occurred due to the negligence and lack of safety measure and held the AE responsible for the accident.

Crushed body found
In another gory incident, a body was allegedly run over multiple times after the man was hit by an unknown vehicle on Friday night near Kerekettiganur in Nelamangala taluk. Police said that it became difficult for them to establish the identity of the deceased as the body was completely crushed.

Prima facie suggests that the body is of a male aged around mid forties. A case has been registered in the jurisdictional police station and a probe has been initiated in to the same.
