Hyderabad: Five arrested for cattle theft; cow, calf, van seized

The arrested suspects and the recovered animals and van were handed over to Madhapur police station.

Hyderabad: The South Zone Task Force arrested five persons involved in cattle thefts and seized a cow, a calf and a van from them. The arrested suspects are Mohd Ayub alias Baada Ayub, 54, Mohd Baba, 34, Mohd Ayub Qureshi alias Chota Ayub, 28, Mohd Haji, 30, and Mohd Isaq, 47.

“The suspects steal cows, buffaloes and calves from cattle sheds in unguarded secluded places and stray animals at night and transport them in a four-wheeler specially designed by them with curtains on all sides. The curtains hide the stolen animals and escapes the attention of the police and the public,” said Commissioner's Task Force DCP B. Limba Reddy.

“After the theft they immediately sell the animals to butchers at throwaway prices and share the money among themselves. The butchers kill the cattle and sell the beef before sunrise destroying all evidence,” the DCP added.

Mohd. Ayub is the leader of the gang and Mohd Baba his brother. Ayub and his gang had been stealing cattle since 2001 and is involved in about 200 cases, absconding in 52 cases. 17 NBWs are pending against him.

On Friday morning while the suspects were moving suspiciously in their vehicle (AP 12 G 4358), police apprehended them and recovered a cow, a calf and a van.

The arrested suspects and the recovered animals and van were handed over to Madhapur police station.
