Bengaluru: They stole laptops, sold online; 3 held

Bengaluru: A three-member gang that stole laptops from various Paying Guest accommodation and sold them on the online marketing sites like OLX were arrested by HAL police on Wednesday.

Interestingly, one of the accused is the son of an Assistant Sub-Inspector and is also an ITI graduate working in a private firm.

The accused have been identified as Chethan, son of an ASI, Shravan, and Mukthiyaar. Shravan from Andhra Pradesh is an MBA graduate and a resident of Sahakaranagar while Mukhtiyaar is a computer dealer. The police have seized 40 laptops and said 50 more are to be recovered from them. The police said the trio used rented bikes to recce the area where PGs were located. They would first identify the potential buildings and then lift laptops kept near windows. After stealing a laptop, they would buy the necessary accessories from SP Road and put it for sale on OLX.

How they were traced
Recently a theft case was filed by one Nagesh at the HAL police station. During the investigation the police gathered CCTV footage and found that the miscreants had come in a rented bike.

The police took down the registration number of the bike, approached the rental company and sought details regarding those who had taken that particular bike on rent.

After getting the details, the police raided a lodge in Majestic where the trio was staying. However they could not catch them as the culprits had got information regarding the raid well in advance.

The police they tracked their call details and nabbed them. Stealing laptops since 2011 the trio was been stealing laptops from PGs since 2011. Police said they wanted to make quick money for a luxurious life, which they felt was impossible from their salaries.
