Mumbai: Vegan woman kills self after husband forces her to eat mutton

Mumbai: Unable to cope up with incessant pressure from her husband to eat mutton, a 22-year-old vegan woman from Nalasopara, on the outskirts of Mumbai, hanged herself using her dupatta.

According to media reports, Puja Dhiraj was also asked to quit her job from an imitation jewellery firm by her husband Dhiraj Lukam.

Police sources were quoted as saying that the woman killed herself by hanging her by a dupatta in their Patankar Park residence.

“Her kin have complained that her husband has been torturing her since March and forcing her to eat mutton," said a police officer at Nalasopara station and added that as a vegan, she was very much opposed to it, which led to further taunts and assault .

26-year-old Lukam was arrested under section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code and will be lodged in police custody until April 29.
