Daman: 11 students from Gujarat detained for alleged gangrape
Daman: Daman police on Wednesday said they have detained 11 students of an engineering college in Anand district of Gujarat for alleged gang-rape of a 20-year-old girl.
The girl has already filed an FIR, said the superintendent of police Eish Singhal.
"The girl is from Gujarat and is living here for higher studies. She lodged an FIR claiming that nine to 10 youths abducted and raped her between April 21 and 22 in Daman and later in Anand. We detained 11 youths today," said Singhal.
"We are yet to verify the allegations so we have not arrested them. All of them are residents of various parts of Gujarat and studying in the third year of engineering course."
The girl said in the complaint that she had met some of the accused through a social media platform. She was abducted in a car from Airport road in Daman and then taken to a place in Bhimpore area, the FIR says.
"She alleged that she was first raped by some of these youths in Bhimpore on April 21. The next day she claims she was taken to a flat in Anand district where she was again raped. Medical reports suggest that she was raped," he said.
As the girl had not provided some crucial details, police were proceeding cautiously, Singhal said, not disclosing identities of the accused. "We have also sought call records of the accused," he said.
