16 bonded child labourers rescued in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Sixteen bonded child labourers were rescued from bangle-making units under the Rein Bazar police station limits by the Commissioner’s Task Force, South Zone on Tuesday.

Cops also arrested three persons – Md Akram (20) and Md Azghar (18), both natives of Gaya in Bihar, and Md Saddam (25) of Junapur in Uttar Pradesh.
The trio had been running a bangle-making unit from two rooms, one of which was for the 16 boys they had brought from villages in UP and Bihar. All of the boys are in the age group of nine-16 and were brought to the city with promises of employment.

“They were given food, accommodation and a monthly salary of Rs 2000 to Rs 3000. They were rescued and sent to the Saidabad Government Boys’ Home,” said a senior police official.

Police booked cases against the trio under Section 370 (buying or disposing of any person as a slave) and 374 (unlawful compulsory labour) of the Indian Penal Code, Sections 16,17 and 18 of Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act, Section 3 and 14 of Child Labour (prohibition and regulation) Act and Section 79 of the Juvenile Justice Act.
