Protect student complainant: NISA
KOZHIKODE: NISA, the progressive Muslim Women's Forum, has come to the aid of the girl student of Farook College, who protested against the derogatory remarks made about girl students by Farook Training College assistant professor Jauhar Munavar. NISA president V.P. Zuhra told reporters here on Monday that they would approach Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the Women's Commission to give the student adequate protection. "The Women's Commission should have taken a suo motu case against the anti-woman speech of Mr Jauhar. They are keeping silent. Even the government's approach is not satisfactory.
The girl is being threatened. The Muslim organisations have come out against the police for registering a case. Their women leaders are also keeping silent about the derogatory remarks," Zuhra said. The Muslim organisations on Friday jointly demanded to withdraw the cases against Mr Jauhar registered by Koduvally police. The police on Thursday had registered a case against him for his alleged remarks that the girl students "reveal their bodies like a slice of red watermelon."
Mr Jauhar has not been arrested, though he was charged with non-bailable sections like IPC 354 A4 (making sexually coloured remarks) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman). The police said that the petitioner did not present any evidence against the teacher. The student, who filed the complaint, said that she did not face any threats directly, though there were severe 'cyber auditing' happening.
"I have completed my examinations and have to go to college only on Wednesday. I had told my friends to hand over the evidence to the police as I am away in Aluva. That would be done soon," said the girl who has completed her sociology final-year examinations. IUML leader Noorbina Rasheed said that they preferred not to react on the issue and would make a public statement after consulting other members of the party.
