Child abuse in Bengaluru: 300 parents protest
BENGALURU: Demanding stringent action against the accused and the management of the preschool in Bellandur, where a three-year-old nursery student was sexually abused recently, over 300 citizens staged a protest at a cricket ground behind HAL police station on Sunday morning.
In the peace protest, ‘Voice of Innocence’, organised by the Bellandur Parents’ Association, the protesters said the police should immediately arrest management representatives and the staff of the preschool as they did not act upon the initial complaint of the victim’s parents.
They submitted a memorandum to Additional Commissioner of Police (East) Hemant Nimbalkar, who met the protesters. They demanded immediate recording of statements of all the victims and parents before a magistrate under Section 164 of the CrPC within the next 2-3 days to avoid further mental trauma to children. They demanded the arrest of school authorities under stringent Section 16 of the Pocso Act.
Mr Nimbalkar said, “We have booked the accused under appropriate sections of the Pocso Act and I assure you that nobody, who committed such crimes, can escape.”
