Bengaluru: Drunk scooterist assaults police officer
BENGALURU: An Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) attached to Banashankari traffic police station sustained injuries after a drunk scooterist knocked him down in a bid to escape while he was stopped him during a check for drunken driving.
The incident was reported near NCERT Junction near Hosakerehalli on last Tuesday night and ASI, B. Lingaiah, sustained injuries in the incident.
Police said the traffic policemen were on a routine drunk and drive check at the junction on Tuesday night. The tried to flag down a scooterist, but he reversed the vehicle and tried to escape. In the process, he knocked down the ASI and also hurt himself. The ASI sustained injuries on both his knees, right elbow and his tooth got chipped off.
“The motorist, identified as Rajashekhar, 53, then picked up a fight the policemen. He claimed he was an editor of a TV channel and brother-in- law of a retired ACP. However, he was subjected to breathalyzer test and it was found he had consumed alcohol beyond permissible limits. Action was taken against him as per the procedure,” the police said.
It is learnt that the motorist took a medical certificate for his injuries the same night and filed a false complaint with the Girinagar police, alleging that he was pushed by the traffic policemen.
When Girinagar police questioned Lingaiah, he filed another complaint against Rajashekhar for obstructing the duty of a public servant. Further investigations are on.
