Fraudster Held, Chinese Links Under Probe

Hyderabad: The city cyber crime team arrested 24-year-old Harsh Kumar from Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, for facilitating payments to Chinese fraudsters purchasing cryptocurrency on their behalf.

Kumar was arrested for threatening a local resident by posing as an agent of an international courier agency and a police official and collecting Rs. 5.9 lakh from her.

He told the victim that she had received a consignment containing prohibited substances from Taiwan. To hush up the matter, he collected the money from her through digital banking.

The victim, a woman, panicked and got trapped, A.V. Ranganath, joint commissioner of police, CCS SIT, said.

Police are probing into the cryptocurrency angle and suspecting Kumar’s involvement in other similar cases. Police seized a mobile phone and an expensive laptop from the accused.

Man Held for Cheating Hyderabad Resident

Hyderabad: City cybercrime police arrested 33-year-old cyberfraudster involved in residents by collecting money on the promise of providing cricket match tickets. Police arrested the accused, Mohammad Riyaz, from Gurugram, Haryana.

Police said Riyaz worked as a freelancer with an events organiser in Gurugram and used to provide cricket match tickets to several persons.

A city resident approached the cybercrime recently stating that Riyaz in March had promised to arrange tickets a World Cup cricket match at Visakhapatnam and collected Rs.5.26 lakh. He then stopped taking victim’s calls.

2 Nabbed for Attempt to Murder Man

Hyderabad: The crime team of Bahadurpura police on Monday arrested two persons involved in more than 14 offences and wanted in an attempt to murder case, and recovered the knife.

The accused were identified as Mohammed Akbaruddin Farooqui, 29, a cloth merchant, and Mohammed Mohsin Hussain, 34, a driver.

Police said Farooqui has been committing property offences in the twin cities since in 2007 and had been arrested and remanded in prison, P. Sai Chaitanya, south zone DCP, said.

Last year Farooqui was released from prison and he teamed up with Hussain and stabbed Mohammed Anwar. Five months back, the south zone police based on Anwar’s information had arrested Farooqui in a ganja case.

Mohsin was earlier convicted in a robbery case and they were involved in criminal cases of attempt to murder, robbery, snatching in Kalapather, Bahadurpura, Chaderghat, Mailardevpally and Falaknuma police station limits.
