Hyderabad: An autorickshaw driver has been taken into custody by the Bachupally police of the Cyberabad commissionerate on a complaint from a transgender that he attempted to sexually assault her and also robbed her after taking her to a secluded place.
On Wednesday, the victim Sarina (name changed) along with friends caught the driver at an autorickshaw stand in Bachupally and handed him over to the police after thrashing him. Sarina told the media that the incident took place on Monday night at around 8 pm, when she was begging on the road and walking from Bachupally towards the market.
“An autorickshaw driver stopped the vehicle and offered me a lift till IDA Bolaram. After reaching a forest area, he took the vehicle into a secluded area and demanded sexual favours. I refused, but he dragged me by my hair and tried to sexually assault me. I pushed him away and ran from there,” said Sarina. She said that she lodged a complaint with the Bachupally police, but the police failed to respond immediately.
“Today (Wednesday), my friends and I caught the driver identified as Mahesh who was waiting at Bachupally and handed him over to the police,” she told the media.
Bachupally Inspector P. Jagadeeshwar said that the auto driver had allegedly attempted sexual assault and had also robbed about Rs 1,600 in cash from the victim. A case has been registered and further investigation is on, he added.
