Bengaluru: Cops crack infant murder, arrest grandma
Bengaluru: The city police have cracked the murder of a one-month-old baby boy and arrested his 53-year-old grandmother.
The baby, one among the twins born to a couple in Neelasandra, was found smothered to death at his house on Friday.
Police said that the accused admitted that she killed the child to avenge her son for marrying outside their religion. Police said that during investigation, the father of the deceased child, identified as Karthik, had accused his kin for the murder. They had on Friday detained Karthik’s father, identified as Chitta Raj, an ex-serviceman, and his younger brother Arvind.
During investigation it came to light that Chitta Raj’s wife Vijaylakshmi, was upset that his son had married a woman from other religion and converted to that religion.
Vijaylakshmi and Chitta Raju moved to a different house and severed all links with Karthik. However, after the birth of twins, they plotted to kill one of the babies, and started paying visits to Karthik.
On Friday, under the pretext of taking care of the boy, Vijaylakshmi strangulated him using a veil. She wrapped the body in a towel and hid it under the bed, before fleeing.
The accused has been booked for murder, produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody, a senior police officer said.
