TTV Dhinakaran backer attacked after bypoll victory

Maniyan, who was earlier the AIADMK's forty ninth ward treasurer, later turned Dhinakaran's supporter.

Coimbatore: The city police have launched a search for a group of 20 members who allegedly barged into a house belonging to a supporter of dissident AIADMK leader, TTV Dhinakaran in Coimbatore and attacked his family members for celebrating the R.K. Nagar result on Sunday.

Police said, Maniyan, 72, a retired government bus conductor residing in Rathinapuri, had last evening burst crackers and distributed sweets to his area residents after TTV Dhinakaran was declared winner as an Independent from the RK Nagar constituency. Maniyan, who was earlier the AIADMK’s 49th ward treasurer, later turned Dhinakaran’s supporter.

Apparently irked by his behavior, a 20-strong members group, suspected to be from the rival faction, in retaliation entered Maniyan's house, broke and damaged household articles, even as another group waiting outside hurled stones at the building and damaged the window panes.
