Chennai: Man killed, 3 hurt as luxury car runs amok

Mugandran hit another motorbike and came to a halt after ramming onto a parked car, police said.

Chennai: A speeding luxury car driven by a businessman ran amok on Gandhi Mandapam road on late Sunday night leaving one person dead and three others including a professor injured. The car- a merceders benz was driven by C Mugandran (28). He was riding towards his residence in Mogappair from Adyar when he first hit a two-wheeler near the back gate of Anna University. The occupants of the bike- P Kaliappan (20) a third year B Tech student and the pillion rider, Narasimhan (46), a college professor were thrown to the ground in the impact. They survived with injuries.

The deceased was identified as R Venkatesan (27) of Kodambakkam. He was riding pillion with his friend, V Praveen Kumar (23) of Villivakkam. They were returning from a church in Besant Nagar, police investigations revealed.

Adyar Traffic Investigation wing personnel rushed to the scene and secured the injured persons and moved them to a hospital for treatment. A case was registered under sections 304 (a) (Causing death by negligence.), 279 ( Rash driving or riding on a public way.) and 338 (Causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) against Mugandran, who police said was not under the influence of Alcohol.
