23-year-old woman techie stabbed to death on road in Pune

Police suspects killer to be girl's stalker, launch manhunt.

Pune: A woman IT professional, 23, from Bengal working with IT major Capegemini here was slain by an unidentified person after an argument between them on a pavement a few metres from her office, police said on Sunday. The killing, that took place on Friday, sent shockwaves among the large number of IT employees.

Police has formed multiple teams to nab the assailant and launched a probe from various angles amid suspicion the man had been stalking the victim Antara Das. Das was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon near Kanbay Chowk in Talawade at night. It was barely 500 metres from her workplace on the outskirts of the city. She was walking down from the office.

“According to her parents, a youth who was with Antara during a training in Bengaluru was following her. We are investigating from that angle too.” said SP Pune (rural) Jai Jadhav.

Another police officer said, “The angle of robbery has been ruled out. The valuables with the woman were found to be intact.” Talking to a news agency, eyewitness Satyendra Sinha, who rushed Antara to a nearby hospital with the help of some others, said, “While riding the bike near Kanbay chowk, I saw a couple having an argument and suddenly saw the girl collapsing on the pavement. As I stopped, the woman who was bleeding came near my bike, held my hand and pleaded for help, saying, “Save me.” She fell unconscious near the bike. Meanwhile, the assailant wearing a blue black T-shirt, disappeared from the scene,” Sinha said.

The parents of Antara who flew down from Kolkata to Pune on Saturday night performed her last rites in the city on Sunday. An official statement from Capegemini said, “We are shocked and saddened to learn about the tragic death of our employee. We stand with the family in this hour of loss and are extending all possible support to the investigation authorities.”
