Hyderabad: Dowry victim commits suicide

According to Medipally police, the girl identified as Susmitha, was married to one Vijender, 27, a local resident on May 25 of this year.

Hyderabad: A 19-year-old girl committed suicide unable to bear alleged dowry harassment of her husband at her in-law’s house in Medipally late Sunday night. The police registered a case against the girl’s husband and took him into custody for questioning.

According to Medipally police, the girl identified as Susmitha, was married to one Vijender, 27, a local resident on May 25 of this year. During the wedding, the girl’s family gave Rs 3 lakh cash, six tolas gold and 150 guntas of land as dowry.

After some days of marriage, Vijender started harassing the girl for additional dowry and also suspected her fidelity. Despite an attempt by the elders from both families to settle the issue, Vijender continued the harassment. Unable to bear it any longer, Susmitha hanged herself to the ceiling at her in-law’s house on Sunday night, said the police.

Following a complaint from the girl’s family, a case has been registered against the accused, who has been taken into custody.
