Dalit woman gang-raped, murdered in Asifabad

It is suspected that some unidentified persons gang-raped and murdered Laxmi and left her body in the forest area.

KUMARAMBHEEM ASIFABAD: Villagers found the dead body of a woman, Teku Laxmi, 30, in the forest area of Yellapatar in Lingapur mandal, Kumarambheem Asifabad district on Monday. Police visited the scene of o with a dog squad and started an investigation.

A missing case was filed with the local police by Laxmi's family members on November 24. Stab marks were found on various parts of her body.

It is suspected that some unidentified persons gang-raped and murdered Laxmi and left her body in the forest area.

Laxmi belonged to the Budaga Jangalu, a Dalit community, who came to Lingapur mandal from Khanapur and was doing some petty business of selling balloons and bangles locally.

Hundreds from people from various villages staged a protest over the incident and demanded that the central government punish the accused involved in the rape and murder.

The irate agitators demanded punishment by hanging the accused to teach a lesson to others.

Leaders of the Budaga Jangala community said there was no protection for Dalit women, especially Budaga Jangalu who earn their ivelihood by selling small items by visiting villages.
