Telangana: Residential hostel kids missing cases on rise

The negligence of the hostel staff was found in all the three incidents.

Adilabad: Incidents of students missing from the government hostels are on the rise. As many as five students in three separate incidents were missing from their hostels in the last one week in old Adilabad district. The negligence of the hostel staff was found in all the three incidents. These five students deserted their hostels without informing their school staff.

Students who deserted the hostels told their parents that they don't want to study in these hostels as they were not happy with the treatment given to them by teachers and non-teaching staff. It is said that lack of basic facilities in the newly established residential schools is one of the reasons behind students deserting the hostels without informing their teachers. Some students those deserted their hostels are not coming to their home with the fear that their parents will scold them.

Parents of missing Raju, a VII standard student, had staged a dharna in front the district Social Welfare Residential School alleging that their son was missing due to the negligence of the hostel staff in Sirpur (T). Three minority students Mukhid, Muzammil, and Hasan were reported missing from Khanapur Minority Residential School.

All the three students were in VIII standard and were native to Indravelli. In another incident, Devidas studying VIII standard in Ichoda Social Welfare Residential School had gone missing. Police traced the missing students except for Devidas.

Adilabad zilla parishad chairperson V. Shobarani had visited the Khanapur Minority Residential School and expressed her displeasure over poor management of the hostel by the staff. She questioned the staff and warden how the students escaped. She said the staff are neglecting their duties while the state government is establishing educational institutions for different sections to boost education.
