Nellore: Bank customer cheated of Rs 1.54 lakh cash

Miscreants misuse debit card PIN to make purchases online.

Nellore: Unidentified persons managed to draw Rs 1,54,000 from the account of Andhra Bank customer using his debit card PIN number for online purchase. In a similar incident, miscreants withdrew Rs 9,000 from the account of another customer. Both the incidents took place in Kavali and the customers lodged complaints with the police on Friday.

According to Kavali One Town SI T. Nagaraju, Ch Suman of Kavali deposited Rs 1,07,000 in his account, which had a balance of Rs 55,000 already on November 10. To his shock and surprise he found only Rs 7,000 left in his account instead of Rs 1,62,000 when he checked the balance on the next day. Hoping that the bank officials will be able to help him to trace the place of withdrawal, he rushed to the bank but he could not get immediate help as all the transactions in the bank went haywire with hundreds of customer's bee lining to deposit the banned notes or withdraw money for next few days.

He approached the police after understanding that the bank can't do much except giving the details on payment made for online purchase of articles on Friday. The SI said that Rs 9,000 was drawn from the account of one P. Usharani of Kavali for online purchase in similar manner. “The unidentified accused had given fake address to the online agency and incidentally identical address was given in a similar occurrence that took place sometime back and the case is being investigated by central crime station. We are suspecting the role of the same person behind the latest incident,” Mr Nagaraju said expressing confidence in nabbing the offender soon.
