Kamal Haasan may face police case for Nilavembu Kudineer tweet

He was utilising the social network for spreading false rumours and also opinions against the government.

Chennai: The Madras high court has directed the Vepery police to register a case based on a complaint against popular film star Kamal Haasan — if a cognisable offence is made out — for allegedly spreading rumours about the consumption of Nilavembu Kudineer, the herbal concoction which is credited with helping avert dengue.

Justice M.S.Ramesh gave the directive on a petition filed by G.Devarajan, an advocate clerk, which sought a direction to the police to register his complaint against Kamal for his alleged recent tweet that consumption of Nilavembu Kudineer will have side effects.

According to petitioner, he was benefited by the treatment at the Arignar Anna Sidha hospital's branch at Periyar Nagar, which treats patient for diabetes and cold related diseases and dengue fever. As of now, in Tamil Nadu there was an epidemic of dengue and to treat the same, there was no allopathy medicine in government hospitals. However, the government was providing Nilavembu to the suffering patients to increase the resistance power at government hospitals, free of cost.

Nilavembu was a source of great relief to people suffering from fever. While so, actor Kamal Haasan has tweeted that until good results were received after proper investigation, the Nilavembu should not be involved in dengue treatment. Further, he had stated that the investigation need not necessarily be done by allopathy but even the traditional native medical persons could have tested the drug and he had also stated that the medicine will have side effects.

It was not understood on what basis he has declared that the medicine will have side effects. Because of his aversion to the TN Chief Minister Edappadi K.Palanisami, with an intention to instigate a big anti-government revolt and to disturb secularism and peace in the state, Kamal Haasan made this statement. He was utilising the social network for spreading false rumours and also opinions against the government and therefore, he has to be booked under Cyber Crime Rules and under the National Security Act and cases should be initiated against him, he added.
