The suspect was identified as Velamala Narayana Rao, who was earlier arrested by police in AP for cheating cases.

Hyderabad: Sleuths of the Central Crime station (CCS), Hyderabad, on Wednesday arrested one person, who had cheated corporate hospitals under the pretext of helping them to clear the pending Arogyasri bills and getting benefits under the Arogyasri scheme. The suspect was identified as Velamala Narayana Rao, who was earlier arrested by police in AP for cheating cases.

Based on a complaint from Ms K. Usha Rani, executive officer (admin) of Aarogyasri Healthcare Trust, which stated that they have been receiving calls from unauthorised mobile numbers inquiring about pending claims, payments and empanelment of new network hospitals under the Aarogyasri and EHS schemes. On inquiry by the vigilance officer it was found that many other hospitals are also getting calls from unknown numbers and the callers have been demanding money to clear the pending bills.

“The suspect called the hospitals and gave them details of two bank accounts at Choutuppal and Srikakulam district in AP and demanded money to clear the pending bills,” said a press release from the CCS.

The police traced him and found that he was arrested for the same offence in various districts of AP. After his release from the prison, he collected the data of various hospitals in Telangana and AP whose bills are pending with the Arogyasri office and the hospitals who have applied for empanelment under the Arogyasri scheme. He was arrested and sent to judicial remand on Wednesday.
