Bengaluru: Drunken robbers boasting of their exploits land in jail
BENGALURU: A few drinks at a local bar, followed by loud boasts of his crimes by a robber and the presence of an alert police informer at the spot led to the arrest of a nine-member gang, including a woman, who were involved in honey trapping men and robbing them.
The police first arrested the man who boasted of his exploits which led to the arrest of eight others. Investigations revealed that the gang had honey trapped men using the woman gang member, who was also a call girl. They used to plant her in the target’s house with a hidden camera and then rob the men. Recently, they had targeted a caterer in Girinagar.
The arrested have been identified as Shivananda, 24, Dileep, 18, Sharath Kumar, 19, Vikas, 18, Guru Prasad, 19, Vinod Kumar, 20, Ratan, 25, Raviraj, 26 and Jyothi, 29.
After selecting a target, the gang would send the woman to their house armed with a hidden camera. They would then barge into the house and rob the victims.
However, they ran out of luck when Dileep got drunk in a bar and boasted of the gang’s exploits.
A police team rushed to the bar and detained Dileep, who confessed to the crime and provided details of other gang members. A police team conducted a raid and arrested the others. The police recovered valuables worth Rs 8.3 lakh, including 13 mobile phones and a car, from the gang.
