Visakhapatnam police clueless in acid attack case
Visakhapatnam: The CCTV footage which gave the Vizag police clues about the acid attack on a city-based paediatrician is of no use now as the Forensic Science Lab in Hyderabad could not make out anything from the images.
Now, the city police have summoned a Bhubaneswar based physiotherapist Dr Monalisa Mahapatra, with whom Dr Balaji Bhushan Patnaik spoke to hours before he was attacked by miscreants.
Dr Patnaik who works in Seven Hills Hospital as a consultant paediatrician was returning home on September 20, when masked bike-borne miscreants threw acid on him and fled from the spot.
Based on call data, the police have questioned all his friends, doctors and acquaintances working in the city, Odisha and those enrolled in Seven Hills Hospital.
“We spoke to many of his friends and colleagues but did not find anything. The telephonic conversation between Dr Monalisa and Dr Patnaik hints to some animosity,’’ Deputy Commissioner of police K. Fakirappa said and added that he hoped something might emerge out of her questioning.
More teams have been deployed and some of them are camping in Bhubaneswar, Behrampur and Cuttack where Dr Patnaik did his MBBS and PG.
“We are yet to find any clue,’’ said assistant commissioner of police A. Narasimha Murthy who has been given complete charge of the investigation. The CCTV footage was sent to FSL in Hyderabad but the scientists could not make out anything.”
