Hyderabad: Gang held for selling brass in place of gold

The gang also cheated one person Venkateshwara Rao from city in a similar manner and duped him of Rs 52 lakh.

HYDERABAD: Sleuths of the Hyderabad Detective Department on Monday caught two members of ‘Korcha Cheating Gang’ who cheated public on pretext of selling gold coins at throwaway price.

According to the police, the gang members identified as Umesh Narsimmappa, 26, H K Sharath, 24, Shanth Kumar, and Ranjappa called one P. Sai Kumar of Kulsumpura over phone.

The caller introduced himself as a floral decorator from Shimoga district in Karnataka and told that an elderly man in his village was trying to sell off gold coins he got in his field.

Believing his words, Sai Kumar went to Shimoga and met the conmen. The gang members gave him four gold coins and the victim returned to city. “Sai Kumar went to the goldsmith and confirmed its purity. The man again went to Shimoga with Rs 8 lakh to purchase the remaining gold coins from the old man only to be fooled with brass coins.

The gang also cheated one person Venkateshwara Rao from city in a similar manner and duped him of Rs 52 lakh.
