Karnataka: Businessman assaulted by toll plaza employees, 2 held

Anand was allegedly attacked by two bouncers employed at the Attibele toll gate when he refused to pay the toll.

BENGALURU: As the tension on the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border continues over the Cauvery dispute, a 40-year-old businessman from Attibele was allegedly assaulted by toll gate employees last Monday for not paying the toll.

The victim, Anand Reddy, a resident of Handenahalli on Hosur, had gone to Hosur to fill petrol when the incident took place around 7.30 pm on Monday.

Anand was allegedly attacked by two bouncers employed at the Attibele toll gate when he refused to pay the toll. Anand, who is undergoing treatment at Victoria Hospital, is scared that he might have lost hearing in one ear because of the blows he received.

The Attibele police arrested the two bouncers, Praveen Kumar, 26 and Rajendra, 28, and remanded them to judicial custody. They have been booked for attempt to murder, assault, criminal intimidation and wrongful restraint.

The police said that when Anand was stopped at the toll, he refused to take the ticket saying he was a local. The two bouncers started questioning Anand and asked him to produce the documents to prove that he is a local. Soon, an argument followed and the two bouncers assaulted Anand.

The two men hit Anand several times on his ears and face. They then took money from his pockets and his mobile phone, Anand has stated in his police complaint. An injured Anand immediately approached the Attibele police and registered a complaint. The police swung into action and arrested the two.
