Man assaults metro staff for stopping him from carrying excess liquor in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Denied permission to carry excess liquor in a Metro Rail train, a passenger, Vikram, along with his friends assaulted Metro Rail staff at the Prakashnagar station in the city late on Thursday. Prasanna Kumar, the security supervisor, was severely injured in the attack.

At about 6 pm on Thursday, security personnel while routinely scanning the baggage of commuters, noticed that Vikram was carrying three sealed liquor bottles.

As the Metro Rail administrator's instructions allowed only two sealed liquor bottles, security personnel informed Vikram. He allegedly picked up a quarrel with the security personnel and abused them. When Prasanna Kumar raised an objection, Vikram picked up a plastic chair nearby and attacked him, leaving him with bleeding injuries.

The station controller’s security guards caught Vikram and alerted the police but he managed to call his friends over the phone. Two of his friends, identified as Praveen and Sharath, joined him at the station and assaulted the Metro Rail staff. Begumpet police registered a case and started an investigation.
