Four get life imprisonment, six 3-year RI for political murder
Vijayawada: Four of the accused in the murder of Chennupati Ramesh, 30, at Perayapalem village under Addanki police station during voting on April 23, 2009, have been sentenced to life imprisonment. Six others have been sentenced to three years’ rigorous imprisonment.
Bapatla district SP Vakul Jindal underlined that sentencing of the 10 persons by 8th ADJ Court in Ongole is the best example of conviction-based policing method.
He explained that on April 23, 2009, during assembly and parliament elections, Chennupati Ramesh had been killed in a fight with the rival party. Following investigations, police named 10 as accused, namely Jagarlamudi Satyanarayana, Jagarlamudi Srinu alias Srinivasa Rao, Jagarlamudi Nageswara Rao, Mannam Ramanjaneyulu, Korrapati Venkateswarlu alias Bujji, Chennupati Chinna Srinivasa Rao alias Srinu, Anaparthi Nelson Rao, Putta Srinivasa Rao alias Chinna Srinivasa Rao, Valeti Srinivasa Rao and Valeti Subba Rao.
These 10 had together attacked Chennupati Ramesh with rods and other weapons indiscriminately, causing severe injuries on the head and other parts of the body. Ramesh died on the spot.
On a complaint filed by Marripudi Edukondalu, police officials registered a case under sections 143, 146, 147, 324, 307 and 302 read with 149 IPC and section 132 and 143 of Peoples Representation Act in Addanki police station. Darsi DSP Sheikh Nazir Ahmed conducted the investigation and proved the crime with sufficient evidence.
Police arrested all the accused on April 28, 2009 and sent them to remand. They filed the charge-sheet in the concerned court on December 22, 2009. Chirala DSP Prasada Rao and Addanki town inspector monitored the case, while public prosecutor J. Jospin proved the crime against the accused.
Judge D. Amman Raja of Ongole 8th ADJ Court gave the judgement, sentencing Jagarlamudi Satyanarayana (35), Jagarlamudi Srinu @ Srinivasa Rao (42), Jagarlamudi Nageswara Rao (45) and Mannam Ramanjaneyulu (26) to life imprisonment and a fine of ₹5,000. The remaining six got three years’ rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ₹1,000.
