Hyderabad: A 13-year-old class VII student was sexually assaulted by a 60-year-old scrap shop owner from her locality in Rein Bazaar on Saturday evening.
According to the police, Mohd Omer, resides in the same area as the victim and has a scrap shop there which he runs himself.
“On Saturday evening at about 4 pm, the girl’s mother asked her to buy sewing machine oil and sent her out when Omer called her to his shop. He misbehaved with her and was molesting her when a neighbour, Farooque, noticed the incident and rushed to the spot to rescue her,” said the police inspector of Rein Bazaar, Mohd Abdul Javed.
The girl was taken to her mother who was also told about the whole episode, following which a complaint was lodged at Rein Bazar police station, where a case was booked for attempt to rape and under sections of PoCSO Act.
Omer was arrested and sent to judicial remand following the complaint.
