Chennai: House help, aide steal gold from retd DIG's house, held
Chennai: Ambattur Industrial Estate police have arrested a house help and her aide for stealing 30 sovereigns of gold from retired DIG’s house where she was employed, on Saturday.
According to police, Krishnaswami (64) of Shanthi Nagar in Ambattur is a former DIG of CRPF and retired from the service voluntarily in 2007. “On Friday, Krishnaswami and his family opened the bureau to take jewelleries to keep it in a pooja. To their shock, 30 sovereigns of gold were found stolen from the bureau,” police said.
Krishnaswami lodged a complaint at Ambattur Industrial Estate police station. Police registered a case and questioned Lalitha (26), the house help working in Krishnaswami's house and a resident of Gandhi Nagar in Virugambakam. “During the investigation, it was revealed that Lalitha had allegedly stolen the jewels and handed over to her friend Vivekanandan (26) of Jaffarkhanpet for safekeeping,” the police added.
Police arrested Lalitha and Vivekanandan on Saturday and sent them to judicial remand. About 20 sovereigns of gold jewels were recovered from them.
