Chennai: A woman and his family were in a shock after a burglar tried to remove her gold chain while she was sleeping in her house near Mangadu. Although the burglar failed in his attempt, he escaped with gold and cash kept in a bureau.
According to the police, Rajkumar of Srinivasa Nagar in North Malaiyambakkam near Mangadu runs a provisional store near his house. “On Friday night, Rajkumar, his wife Kalaiselvi (30) and others were sleeping in a room on the first floor. Kalaiselvi felt something on her neck and woke up. To her shock, a man standing near her was trying to remove her gold chain,” the police said.
She raised an alarm waking her husband and others. Although the family tried to chase the man, he managed to escape. Before the family fully recovered from the shock, they notice the bureau open. When they checked the bureau, they found 11 sovereigns of gold jewels and Rs 1.75 lakh stolen.
Rajkumar lodged a complaint at Mangadu police station. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case and are investigating. Meanwhile, the police said that the burglar had already stolen the valuables from the bureau before trying to remove the chain.
