Bengaluru: 4 held for van driver's murder

The police arrested the accused based on a tip-off and call record details of the deceased.

Bengaluru: Four people, who had killed a 30-year-old van driver by smashing his head with iron rods, have been arrested by the Varthur police. The police suspect an illicit affair between the deceased’s wife and the accused to be the reason for the murder. The police have arrested Shivakumar (27), Pavan (19), Karthik (23) and Rakshit (19), who have confessed that they hacked Nawaz to death and disposed of his body near Chikkamagaluru.

The police arrested the accused based on a tip-off and call record details of the deceased. They said that the accused, Shivakumar, called Nawaz on his phone around 4 am on August 20 and asked him to come out of the house to discuss transportation of their goods in his vehicle. The accused took Nawaz to a distance and mercilessly hacked him to death with iron rods. The accused then stuffed Nawaz’s body in a gunny bag and loaded it in the boot of the car they were travelling in. The accused drove to near Chikkamagaluru and disposed of the body, DCP (Whitefield) Abdul Ahad said. The investigation into the case initially began with a missing complaint filed by the Nawaz’s wife Ayesha and the police were making efforts to trace Nawaz. Later, the police, based on the tip-off and call record details, found the missing case to be a concocted one. The police detained the accused and during the interrogation, they confessed to killing Nawaz.

While the police are making efforts to trace the body of Nawaz which the accused claim that they threw it near Chikkamagaluru, the police are also investigating the involvement of the deceased’s wife Ayesha as she was known to Shivakumar and allegedly had an affair with him. Ayesha is Nawaz’s second wife and Nawaz is Ayesha’s second husband, the police said.
